Public Works Job Description:

 

JOB SUMMARY: The Public Works Tech I is responsible for the operation and maintenance/repair of streets, parks, city properties, stormwater, wastewater collections, and water systems. 

 

Salary:

Position starts at $16-$18 an hour depending on experience.

Hours:

  • Full time position/40 hours a week/ Monday through Friday/7am to 4pm

  • Rotational on-call status for seven (7) days at a time. While on call, the position requires the employee be within a 20-minute response time.

  • The preferred candidate would live within a 20-minute response time to the City of Dublin but would be handled on a case-by-case basis with the Public Works Director.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License

  • Ability to pass a background and drug screening

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Ability to efficiently communicate with supervisors, the general public and fellow employees.

  • Position requires a Class B CDL with air brakes or higher or the ability to achieve a class B CDL with air brakes before the end of probation.

  • Position requires a candidate to acquire a class C water and class C wastewater license within two years if the candidate does not already have licensing. The City will provide training for licensing.

  • May be required to hold, lift, push and/or pull a minimum of 80 pounds; walk, stand and kneel for extended periods of time; push and pull up to 200 pounds; climb ladders; perform heavy manual labor in conditions of extreme heat and cold, and in the presence of extreme noise, dust, filth, and possible mechanical or chemical hazards as well as traffic hazards.

  • Inspect vehicles and equipment daily and perform routine and preventative maintenance as needed.

  • Repair damaged utility mains and services. Clean and maintain sewer manholes and lines for stoppages.

  • Clean out, raise, and set water meter cans to grade.

  • Perform other manual tasks associated with meter maintenance.

  • Make taps for water and sewer line services.

  • Operate necessary hand and power tools for excavation and repair work as needed.

  • Maintain roads by repairing potholes, hauling materials to and from site, operating equipment, trimming trees and cleaning area when finished.

  • Monitoring and maintenance of the cities storm water and drainage systems.

  • Ability to learn to operate a backhoe, sewer machine, and various other equipment

  • Repair and replace signs by digging holes, pouring concrete, painting stripes and laying thermoplastic.

  • Provide emergency response by rerouting traffic around accidents, removing fallen trees, putting up warning barricades at flooded areas and covering icy roads with gravel.
