HISTORY The City of Dublin took over the ambulance service from Harrell Funeral Home in 1976. Through the years, the service has gone through many changes. The ambulance was staffed by Police Officers who were cross-trained as ambulance attendants. The original qualifications for ambulance attendant were the ability to lift 100 pounds and a driver's license. Today, ambulances are staffed by people who are certified by the state of Texas at one of five levels: Emergency Care Attendant (ECA), Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMTB), Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate (EMTI), Paramedic, and Licensed Paramedic. |

We utilize all certification levels. The training for ECA is about 100 hours of clasroom, Paramedic is about 1400 hours of classroom training plus hospital and ambulance clinical rotations. EMTB and EMTI training hours are in the middle. We do not have full-time employees. We have part-time personnel and on-call personnel. The on-call personnel are people who live in Dublin and take call for us when they are not working at their full-time job. We have two ambulances and a pickup. The pickup is used as a First Response unit. One person can respond directly to the scene while the on-call personnel are responding to the ambulance building.
